Ivermectin
– Dosage Forms: Tablets (3mg, 6mg, 12mg)
– Recommended Dosage:
– Strongyloidiasis: 12mg orally once
– Onchocerciasis: 12mg orally once, repeated every 6-12 months
– Scabies: 12mg orally once, repeated in 7-10 days
– Administration: Tablets can be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity: To Ivermectin or any of its ingredients
– Loiasis: Contraindicated in patients with Loa loa infection, as it may cause severe adverse reactions
Side Effects
– Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache
– Serious Side Effects: Seizures, allergic reactions, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis
Interactions
– Warfarin: Concomitant use may increase the risk of bleeding
– Other Interactions: Concomitant use with certain medications (e.g., cyclosporine, tacrolimus) may require dose adjustments or monitoring.
